Adult 1:1 & 2:1 Swimming Lessons

We teach at the Holiday Inn pool, Sutton on Tuesday afternoons (3:00pm–4:30pm) and Friday afternoons (2:30pm–4:00pm), where we deliver one-to-one and two-to-one swimming lessons.

Because these sessions take place during the day, these sessions mainly teach adults who are looking to gain confidence in the water, improve their technique, or finally achieve their swimming goals.

We also enjoy teaching children who are available during these times, helping them develop their skills in a fun, supportive environment.

One of the things the Waterlife Swim School team loves most about teaching is seeing swimmers grow in confidence. Whether it’s helping someone overcome a fear of the water, mastering a new stroke, or celebrating a personal milestone, every achievement is rewarding. Our aim is to make every lesson enjoyable, encouraging and tailored to each swimmer’s individual needs, so everyone leaves the pool feeling more confident than when they arrived.

For more information or to book your place, please call Kirsty on 07891 314048 or email us info@waterlifeswimschool.com

Frequently Asked Questions

Current NHS guidance does not require babies to wait until they have completed their vaccinations before going swimming, provided they are well. If your baby was born prematurely or has any medical concerns, speak to your GP or health visitor before attending lessons.

Most swim schools recommend a reusable swim nappy with a snug-fitting neoprene over-nappy if required by the pool. Always check your swim school’s specific guidance before your first lesson.

Most baby swimming lessons last between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the baby’s age and the programme.

Yes. Pools used for baby swimming lessons are typically heated to a warmer temperature than standard public swimming pools to help keep babies comfortable.

Introducing your baby to swimming is one of the best gifts you can give them. Early lessons help build confidence, encourage a lifelong love of the water and introduce important water safety skills in a fun, supportive environment.

If you’re thinking about booking your baby’s first swimming lesson, our experienced instructors at Waterlife Swim School provide welcoming classes designed to help babies and parents enjoy every step of the journey together.

What Happens During Baby Swimming Lessons?

Baby swimming lessons are carefully designed to be gentle, engaging and enjoyable. A qualified instructor guides parents and babies through activities such as:

  • Gentle water movements and floating.
  • Songs and games.
  • Splashing and kicking exercises.
  • Safe water entries and exits.
  • Introducing simple water safety skills.

Lessons are always tailored to your baby’s age and stage of development, with plenty of opportunities to learn through play.

This is one of the most common questions parents ask.

While babies can become comfortable and confident in the water, they cannot swim independently or keep themselves safe. Young children should always be supervised closely whenever they are in or near water.

The goal of baby swimming lessons is to build familiarity with the water, encourage positive experiences and lay the foundations for future swimming skills as your child grows.

A little preparation can help make your first lesson relaxed and enjoyable.

Before you visit, remember to:

  • Feed your baby about an hour before the lesson rather than immediately beforehand.
  • Bring a reusable swim nappy and any required protective swimwear.
  • Pack a warm towel and dry clothes for afterwards.
  • Arrive early to give yourselves time to get changed.
  • Stay relaxed—babies often take their cues from their parents.

If your baby seems unsure during the first lesson, that’s completely normal. Confidence grows over time with regular, positive experiences.

Like any new skill, swimming develops through regular practice. Attending lessons consistently helps babies become familiar with the pool environment, build confidence and progress naturally through each stage of learning.

Even if your baby isn’t splashing happily from the very first session, patience and encouragement usually make a big difference over the following weeks.

When Should Babies Start Swimming Lessons?

Many new parents wonder, “When should my baby start swimming lessons?” The good news is that it’s never too early to introduce your little one to the water in a safe, supportive environment such as Waterlife Swim School. While babies aren’t born knowing how to swim, they can begin developing water confidence and essential safety skills from a very young age.

Here at Waterlife Swim School we welcome babies from around 8 weeks old, provided they are healthy and have received medical clearance if needed. By this age, babies are generally better able to regulate their body temperature, making swimming a more comfortable and enjoyable experience. However, every baby develops at their own pace. If your baby is older, there’s absolutely no disadvantage to starting later. Whether your little one is three months or eighteen months old, it’s never too late to begin building confidence in the water.

Early swimming lessons are about much more than learning strokes. They help babies become familiar with the water through fun, age-appropriate activities while spending quality time with a parent or carer. Some of the benefits include:

Developing water confidence from an early age.Improving balance, coordination and motor skills.Encouraging sensory development.Strengthening the bond between parent and baby.Introducing basic water safety habits.Building confidence in new environments.

Most importantly, babies who enjoy positive experiences in the water are often more relaxed and confident as they progress to independent swimming lessons later in childhood.
